Julie Hill is a journalist, documentary maker and fiction writer. She has spent the past year investigating Auckland Police’s vice squad and its treatment of sex workers from the 1970s to the 1990s for The Spinoff.
Last year she was awarded the D’Arcy writer’s residency, during which she wrote a biography of Karangahape Road that told the story of vanished sex worker Jayne Furlong.
Julie’s collection of short stories, ShameJoy, was published in 2014 to critical acclaim. Two of her plays have been nominated for Best NZ Play at the Chapman Tripp theatre awards.
